Who we are

policythinking.co.uk is a website for anybody interested in understanding the UK’s consumer policy landscape. What do we mean by Consumer Policy? Well, for us its any policy area which influences family spending on a day-to-day basis, such as energy, financial services and debt management.

The website is edited by Joseph Surtees, a policy-making expert with two decades experience. Joseph has held senior positions in the UK civil service, for consumer protection bodies and in the third sector. He holds qualifications from the University of York, Kings College London, Oxford University and Birkbeck, University of London in policy design, economics and artificial intelligence. Joseph was named one of the 100 most important people in credit in both 2025 and 2026 by Credit Connect magazine.
